FRSC Kwara Deploys 950 Personnel for Traffic Safety During Yuletide Celebrations
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kwara Sector Command, has deployed 950 personnel to maintain traffic safety during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. In a statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olayinka Basambo, confirmed that the deployment includes 350 special marshals and 120 first responders.
The operation is bolstered by the use of 16 patrol vehicles, two power bikes, four ambulances, four private tow trucks, and a 70-tonne tow truck to ensure smooth traffic flow and prompt response to emergencies across the state.
Sector Commander Mufutau Irekeola outlined the strategic placement of personnel in Ilorin and other major cities in Kwara. This initiative is part of the FRSC’s special patrol, Operation Zero Tolerance for Road Traffic Crash, scheduled from December 15 to January 15, 2025. The operation aims to enhance road safety and reduce accidents during the festive season.
Motorists have been advised to comply with traffic regulations and avoid dangerous driving practices, including excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking, overloading, and the use of mobile phones while driving. Mrs. Basambo also stressed the importance of proper vehicle maintenance, warning against the use of rickety vehicles, worn-out tyres, and vehicles with mechanical issues.
In addition to enforcement, the FRSC has initiated public awareness campaigns, including mega rallies at interstate motor parks and advocacy visits to markets, churches, and mosques. These efforts aim to educate road users about safe driving practices and the consequences of traffic violations.
Commander Irekeola extended festive greetings to the residents of Kwara State, urging them to prioritize safety on the roads. “Motorists should drive with caution because only the living celebrate,” he said.
The FRSC’s proactive measures reflect its commitment to reducing road traffic accidents and ensuring a safe and joyful holiday season for all.
