Fire Destroys Studios and Offices at FRCN Ikoyi in Lagos
A fire has damaged offices, studios, and several sections of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) building located in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The blaze, which reportedly started from an air conditioning unit late on Wednesday night, spread quickly, engulfing key areas within the facility.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed that the fire severely affected two buildings, including control rooms and radio studios as he noted that three studios were destroyed, and the roofs of the buildings suffered significant damage.
Oke-Osanyintolu also mentioned that the fire escalated from the air conditioning unit and spread to adjoining areas of the FRCN office. The fire was eventually brought under control thanks to the combined efforts of the LASEMA Response Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, and Lagos State Ambulance Service.
Despite the extensive damage, valuable equipment and properties were salvaged during the recovery operation. This incident follows a recent report of another fire outbreak in Lagos, which affected 11 shops and destroyed goods worth millions at the Alayabiagba boundary market in Ajegunle.
