Filmmaker AY Makun Laments Lack of Support from Fellow Men
Renowned Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has expressed frustration over what he perceives as a lack of support from his male peers, despite his tireless efforts to remain relevant in the entertainment industry.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, AY lamented the challenges male filmmakers face in garnering backing from their fellow men, claiming that women receive more support in comparison.
He wrote: “One day men go tell man ‘wetin man do man.’ We work so hard to stay relevant and take care of our responsibilities. Must we get breasts and yansh to have the support of our fellow men?
“I am still the only man left in the business of filmmaking who is yet to give it all up,” he added, implying that other male filmmakers have bowed out due to lack of encouragement and resources.
AY’s comments have sparked conversations across social media, with many debating the dynamics of support within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Fans and critics alike have highlighted the disparity in support mechanisms for men and women in the industry, with some attributing it to societal expectations and preferences.
AY Makun, known for his blockbuster movies such as 30 Days in Atlanta and Merry Men, has carved a niche in comedy and filmmaking. However, his recent outburst sheds light on the pressures of staying relevant in a competitive industry.
While some fans sympathize with his sentiments, others argue that success in the entertainment sector requires resilience and self-reliance.
