FG to Seize Retirees’ Property Over Unpaid Housing Loans

The Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board has announced plans to recover mortgaged properties from retired civil servants who failed to fully repay their housing loans. According to a statement by the Board’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Ngozi Obiechina, the compilation of names of defaulting retirees is underway. The action follows a recent directive from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, which mandates the presentation of a Certificate of Non-Indebtedness before retirement. She urged all indebted retirees and those nearing retirement to regularise their loan status and obtain the required clearance certificate. The list of defaulters will be shared with relevant agencies to aid recovery efforts, as the Board intensifies efforts to enforce compliance and recover public funds.
