Femi Kuti Denies Tony Allen’s Role in Creating Afrobeat
Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti has dismissed long-standing claims that late drummer Tony Allen co-created the genre alongside his father, Fela Kuti. In a video posted online, Femi insisted that Fela was solely responsible for Afrobeat’s creation, stating that he composed all drum patterns and taught Allen, just like his other band members. He described as false the reports that Fela ever credited Allen as a co-pioneer, challenging anyone to present proof of such a statement.
