Federal University Lokoja Shut Down Indefinitely Over Student Protests

The Federal University Lokoja has been indefinitely shut down following continuous student protests over the deaths of their colleagues in a tragic accident. The protests began on Monday after a trailer crashed into a school shuttle bus, killing seven people instantly.
In a circular issued on Thursday by Dr. Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie, Registrar, and Secretary to the Council, and copied to the Commissioner of Police and Director of DSS in Kogi State, the university cited security concerns as the reason for the closure.
The circular stated that despite interventions from the State Government and efforts by the university management to restore calm, students continued to barricade the university gates.
Based on advice from security agencies, the Vice-Chancellor, after consulting with the management, ordered the immediate closure of both campuses. Students were instructed to vacate the university premises by noon on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
