Federal Government Warns Motorists After Traffic Crash on Kara Bridge Causes Gridlock
The Federal Government through the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Command, has advised motorists to exercise caution following a road traffic crash on the Kara Bridge, Berger, along the Ibadan-bound section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The crash, which occurred early Wednesday, involved a trailer carrying containers that fell, narrowing the lanes and causing severe traffic gridlock.
In a statement signed by FRSC Lagos Sector Commander Kehinde Hamzat, the agency urged road users to remain calm and cooperate with traffic officials to avoid actions that could escalate the situation.
“Some impatient drivers worsened the situation by driving against traffic flow on the Lagos-bound side of the road, further disrupting traffic in both directions,” the statement noted.
The FRSC assured the public that it is working with the police, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other traffic management agencies to remove the fallen trailer and restore normal traffic flow.
Hamzat confirmed that professionals and recovery equipment have been deployed to clear the wreckage. He also encouraged motorists to use alternative routes and postpone non-essential trips to ease congestion.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of all road users. We urge the public to cooperate with traffic officials on the ground and avoid actions that could worsen the traffic situation,” the statement added.
Motorists are advised to exercise patience and caution while the agencies work to resolve the gridlock and ensure safe passage along the expressway.
