Federal Government Urges Retailers to Reflect Falling Food Costs

The Federal Government has called on retailers to reflect on the recent reduction in food prices and avoid exploiting consumers, describing their failure to adjust prices as unpatriotic.
Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Abubakar Kyari, made this appeal during the 2025 Wheat Farmers Green Field Day in Dabi village, Jigawa State. He expressed concern that despite the significant drop in the prices of essential commodities like flour, sugar, rice, and pasta, many retailers and shop owners have not reduced their selling prices, denying Nigerians much-needed relief.
Noting that flour prices have fallen from N81,000 to below N60,000 per bag and spaghetti from N20,000 to N15,000, Kyari stressed the importance of passing these reductions on to consumers.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring food availability and engaging with stakeholders to reflect current market realities. The event was organized in collaboration with the Flour Milling Association of Nigeria, the federal government, and the Jigawa State government.
