Federal Government Unveils 2025 Youth Empowerment Agenda, Focuses on Jobs and Capital Access
The Federal government has outlined its strategic priorities for Nigerian youth in 2025, focusing on six key areas aimed at empowering the country’s young population.
Top priorities include improving access to capital, creating jobs, and fostering entrepreneurship. The government also seeks to increase youth participation in decision-making processes, as well as enhance youth empowerment through skills development programs.
These initiatives were unveiled by the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, during the closing ceremony of the 7th National Council on Youth Development (NCYD) in Borno State.
The government’s commitment to youth development was emphasized with the launch of several initiatives to engage young Nigerians directly. Among these include the establishment of a Youth Help Desk, which will offer opportunities for young people to address their concerns. Additionally, plans have been made to create a Youth House in Abuja, Youth Centres in each state, and a Youth Green House in all 774 local government areas. These platforms aim to encourage interaction, collaboration, and idea-sharing among the nation’s youth.
In addition to these infrastructure projects, the government is promoting programs like the Corpreneur Support Initiative and Young and Secure, which focus on enhancing the creative and entrepreneurial potential of young Nigerians.
Minister Olawande called on state governors and other stakeholders to support the establishment of Youth Centres, ensuring that state-level youth initiatives align with the national youth development agenda. He emphasized that safe spaces for young people to exchange ideas and innovate are crucial to unlocking their full potential.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, also highlighted the importance of youth development, stressing that Nigerian youths are the backbone of the nation’s economy. He pledged his administration’s support for vocational training, education, and scholarship programs. Governor Zulum reiterated that investing in youth is an investment in the future, underscoring the government’s dedication to empowering young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s economic growth.
