Federal Government to Prioritize Workers’ Welfare, Says Attorney General Fagbemi
Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice has assured that the Federal Government will continue to prioritize the welfare of workers across the country.
Speaking in Abuja at the opening of a three-day training workshop for state counsel on “Proceedings in the National Industrial Court,” he emphasized that the government is committed to improving the welfare of the workforce through various measures.
He highlighted the recent wage increases, the national minimum wage increment, and other palliative measures as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance workers’ conditions and reiterated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would continue to engage with labour unions and explore new ways to further support the nation’s workers.
The AGF also commended the judges of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) for their pivotal role in promoting industrial harmony and noted that the National Industrial Court of Nigeria has become increasingly vital in resolving labor disputes and maintaining a balance between employer and employee rights, which is crucial for the country’s socio-industrial stability and economic development.
According to Fagbemi, the labour force plays a central role in driving the economy through the production of goods and services. As such, the NICN’s role in adjudicating labor-related disputes is fundamental to safeguarding the rights of workers and ensuring the continued growth of Nigeria’s economy.
