Federal Government to Launch Fully Online Visa Application System Starting March 1

The Federal Government has announced that starting from March 1, all visa applications in Nigeria will transition to a fully online system. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, announced during a live session on ‘X Spaces’ hosted by influencer Dr. Segun Awosanya. This move is part of efforts to centralize and streamline Nigeria’s visa processes, making them more efficient and accessible.
Tunji-Ojo also introduced the establishment of a centralized visa approval center, which aims to enhance uniformity in the process, reduce corruption, and strengthen national security. He emphasized that this initiative would be a game-changer, aiming to close existing loopholes that have allowed fraud and inefficiency to thrive. The new system is expected to bring about significant improvements in the country’s visa administration.
In addition to the visa reforms, the minister highlighted the creation of an 8.3-petabyte data center at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex. This center positions Nigeria among global leaders in data security and innovation, showcasing the country’s commitment to technological advancement and digital transparency.
The shift to digital systems is part of a broader effort to modernize governance in Nigeria. It demonstrates the administration’s dedication to not only improving the efficiency of government services but also safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and global reputation. This digital push is expected to strengthen the overall governance framework, making processes more secure and user-friendly for both citizens and foreign nationals.
