Federal Government to Ban Solar Panel Imports, Boost Local Production

March 25, 2025

The Federal government has announced plans to halt the importation of solar panels to boost local production and support Nigeria’s clean energy transition. The Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, stated that the move aligns with Presidential Executive Order No. 5, which promotes local content in science, engineering, and technology while highlighting ongoing investments in renewable energy infrastructure, emphasizing that Nigeria can meet its solar energy needs through organizations like the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure(NASENI), which is already engaged in solar panel production.
