Federal Government Targets 8,000 Megawatts Power Supply by 2027

The Federal Government has announced plans to generate and distribute at least 8,000 megawatts of electricity by the end of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s first term in 2027. Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, made this known during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing in Abuja, noting that the country has already seen a 40 percent improvement in power generation since the administration took office. Adelabu said Nigeria’s average daily power supply has risen from 4,100 megawatts in 2023 to 5,700 megawatts by the last quarter of 2025. He assured Nigerians that with the current momentum, the 8,000-megawatt target is achievable before the end of Tinubu’s tenure.
