Federal government Set to Launch Indigenous Electric Vehicle Industry in Landmark Deal

The Nigerian Government has partnered with UK-based Jupiter Lithium Limited in a landmark five-year agreement to establish Nigeria’s first indigenous electric vehicle manufacturing company.
In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday, the Chairman of Jupiter Lithium Limited, Dr. Stephen Davis, emphasised the strategic importance of mineral wealth to both countries.
“When we talk about vehicle production, we’re not just building cars — we’re building Nigeria’s future,” he said. “This partnership represents a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s transition to sustainable mobility. Jupiter is committed to developing a complete domestic supply chain — from lithium extraction to electric vehicle production.”
The collaboration aims to create a fully integrated lithium-to-electric vehicle ecosystem, positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global green economy. With a facility planned on over 100 square kilometers in Kaduna State, the initiative will promote local content, reduce battery imports, enhance the trade balance, and support sustainable transportation while expecting to boost employment, technology transfer, and environmental sustainability across the mining and automotive sectors.
