Federal Government Moves to Bridge Healthcare Funding Gap After US Withdrawal

Nigeria’s Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, has assured that the government is addressing funding and policy gaps in the healthcare system following the recent withdrawal of US healthcare funding. Speaking with the House Committee on AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, he emphasized the need for Nigeria to take ownership of its healthcare system by increasing domestic funding. The government has initiated several interventions to cushion the impact and is securing alternative funding for key health programs. Lawmakers also called for a Healthcare Trust Fund to ensure sustainable financing, stressing the importance of health advocacy and public awareness.
