Federal Government Makes NIN Mandatory for Social Services, Palliatives

The Federal Government has mandated the use of the National Identification Number (NIN) for accessing all social services and government palliatives, reinforcing its commitment to digital identity.
This was disclosed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, during the inauguration of an Inter-Ministerial retreat on the Nigeria Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) project in Lagos. Emphasizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priority on digital identity, Akume called for government agencies’ support in strengthening the national identity system.
The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Tanko Sununu, reaffirmed his ministry’s collaboration with NIMC to ensure NIN remains a prerequisite for social services. NIMC Director-General, Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted the retreat’s role in fostering collaboration, innovation, and inter-agency cooperation to build a more inclusive and verifiable national identity system for all Nigerians.
