Federal Government Allocates N112 Billion to Ensure Safe Schools for Nigerian Children
The Minister for Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, announced that the Federal Government has allocated N112 billion through the National Plan for Financing Safe Schools to enhance the safety of learning environments over the next three years.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to protect children and ensure that schools remain safe and inclusive spaces for all children across Nigeria. The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement marking Universal Children’s Day, themed “Advancing Children’s Rights for a Sustainable Future.”
She also highlighted significant progress in advancing children’s rights, noting that all 36 states in Nigeria have adopted the Child Rights.
Furthermore, she also highlighted that the implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act has also been pivotal in strengthening policies aimed at protecting children from violence and abuse. These legislative measures reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to creating a safer and more supportive environment for children across the country.
In addition to these legal frameworks, the minister emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring that every child has access to education, health, and a life free from fear and harm. She reaffirmed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to advancing these goals, with a focus on creating an environment conducive to the well-being of Nigerian children.
However, despite these advancements, Suleiman-Ibrahim acknowledged that challenges such as child labor, trafficking, harmful cultural practices, and barriers to inclusive education remain. She called for collective action from all stakeholders to address these critical issues and further protect the rights of children in Nigeria.
