Federal Court Pauses #EndBadGovernance Trial After Minors, Adult Experience Medical Emergencies

November 1, 2024

The Federal High Court in Abuja has suspended the trial of three minors and one adult following their sudden collapse while waiting to respond to charges related to the #EndBadGovernance protests.

The trial judge, Obiora Egwuatu, paused the proceedings to allow for medical attention, later stating that the individuals would be “discharged till they’re medically fit” to continue.

Despite this development, the minors will still face serious charges, including terrorism and treason, once they recover as this situation raises concerns, as the Child’s Rights Act prohibits the trial of underage children in regular courts in such a manner.
