Federal Court Orders Yahaya Bello, Two Co-Defendants to Remain in EFCC Custody Until Dec 10
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has ordered the remand of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, and his two co-defendants in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The decision was made by Justice Maryanne Anenih, who instructed that Bello, along with Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, remain in EFCC custody until December 10.
Meanwhile, Yahaya Bello and his co-defendants were arraigned on a 16-count charge brought against them by the EFCC as the three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read in court, prompting the judge to consider arguments from the legal teams regarding their bail.
Following the arraignment, the court set the next hearing for December 10, when a decision will be made on whether the defendants will be granted bail. The EFCC has accused them of being involved in financial misconduct during Bello’s tenure as governor, which has led to ongoing legal proceedings.
The case has attracted attention due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved, with Bello being a prominent political figure in Kogi State. The legal proceedings are expected to continue, and the court’s decision on bail will be a key development in the case.
