FCT Police Launch Crackdown on Vehicles with Defaced, Missing Number Plates
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced plans to crack down on rising crimes such as ‘one chance’ robberies and car thefts by arresting vehicles that are without registration numbers, have only one plate, or use defaced number plates.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, emphasized that these measures aim to increase security and curb criminal activities targeting motorists and passengers.
As part of the strategy, the police will deploy additional personnel and equipment for patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance across the FCT. The enforcement will also include stricter regulation of covered number plates and tinted windows, with the aim of improving visibility and preventing criminal activities that make use of these modifications to avoid detection.
While acknowledging that these operations may cause some inconvenience to vehicle owners, the police emphasized that they are crucial for maintaining safety in the capital city. The FCT Police Command has already achieved success with these measures, including the recovery of stolen vehicles and the apprehension of ‘one chance’ robbers who target unsuspecting passengers.
The police have called on the public for cooperation, urging vehicle owners to comply with the new regulations to ensure safety and reduce criminal activities. They also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities and work with law enforcement to maintain a secure environment for all.
