EPL: Mikel Obi Slams Man Utd Players, Defends Amorim After Newcastle Defeat
Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has criticized Manchester United players following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United earlier this week.
The loss, which marked Manchester United’s fourth consecutive defeat, saw Newcastle dominate at Old Trafford, with Alexander Isak scoring in the 4th minute and Joelinton doubling the lead by the 19th minute.
Reacting to the result on his Obi One podcast, Mikel described United’s performance as “awful,” emphasizing the players’ lack of quality.
“Even if you’re not a United fan, it’s awful to watch them. They’re horrendous. Newcastle would’ve been 3-0 up in 20 minutes. It was a disaster,” Mikel remarked.
He defended Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, from blame, praising the Portuguese coach’s abilities.
“Listen, it’s not the manager’s fault at all. Ruben Amorim is a fantastic and brilliant young manager. I’ve said it when he came into the club – the players at United, I’m sorry, they are nowhere good enough to be playing for Manchester United,” he added.
Mikel’s comments have reignited conversations around Manchester United’s struggles this season, with mounting pressure on both the squad and coaching staff to turn their fortunes around.
