Enugu Government Introduces New Mining Regulations to Protect Communities

The Enugu State Government has rolled out new mining regulations to ensure fair revenue sharing with host communities and boost safety standards. According to a statement from the governor’s media aide, Dan Nwomeh, the reforms will formalize mining operations and enforce compliance across the state. Led by the Office of the Special Adviser on Solid Minerals and Mining, the initiative responds to years of unregulated activity that reportedly caused over 20 deaths. Operators will now be required to pay community development levies, as part of efforts to make mining safer and more beneficial to locals.
