Enugu Government Applauds Arrest of Simon Ekpa, Labels Him a Terrorist
The Enugu State Government has expressed its approval of the arrest of Simon Ekpa by Finnish authorities, describing him as a “terrorist and criminal” who has shown no regard for the welfare of the Igbo people.
The state government also condemned Ekpa for his actions, which it claims have contributed to instability and fear in the Southeast region as the government also vowed to cooperate with Finnish authorities in ensuring that Ekpa faces justice for his alleged crimes.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Enugu administration expressed its readiness to provide evidence against Ekpa, who has been accused of exploiting the region for personal gain. The Finland-based separatist was arrested and remanded in custody by a district court in Lahti, charged with terrorism. The state government believes this legal development will help restore peace and stability in the South-East.
The government criticized Ekpa for fostering an atmosphere of fear and destruction in the region, accusing him of undermining the Igbo spirit of entrepreneurship and resilience. It further stated that Ekpa has been manipulating and extorting the people of the South-East under the guise of fighting for their interests and the restoration of Biafra. His actions, according to the state government, have only worsened the security situation in the region.
Additionally, the Enugu State officials pledged to support the ongoing legal proceedings and ensure that Ekpa is held accountable for his alleged actions. The government emphasized that his arrest and trial would be a significant step in strengthening security and restoring stability across the South-East.
