Edo State LG Chairman Denies Wrongdoing, Blames Political Differences for Removal
The impeached Chairman of Esan Central Local Government Area in Edo State, Hon. Paul Iyoha, has accused Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo of orchestrating his removal from office due to political differences.
Speaking to the media in Benin, Iyoha criticized the impeachment process, claiming that neither he nor other local government chairmen were given a fair hearing or an opportunity to defend themselves before the Edo State House of Assembly suspended them.
Iyoha insisted that he had carried out his duties diligently, ensuring the timely payment of salaries and allowances to staff and councilors. He described his impeachment as a result of political vendetta, emphasizing that his only “sin” was his support for Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2024 elections, rather than supporting Governor Okpebholo, who is from the same ward.
He further condemned this as an undemocratic act and argued that his political stance was being used against him. He also recounted the challenges he faced during the election, including threats, an attack on his residence, and the abduction of his brother, which he claimed were part of a broader effort to suppress opposition.
