Edo Government Declares Over 200 Vehicles Missing, Recovers Three
The Edo State Government has announced that over 200 vehicles belonging to the state are unaccounted for, with only three recovered so far.
This revelation came from Kelly Okungbowa, Chairman of the Committee on Asset Recovery, during a briefing in Benin City on Friday. Okungbowa noted that the committee, inaugurated less than 24 hours earlier by Governor Monday Okpebholo, has already made progress.
One of the recovered vehicles contained bags of rice and garri originally designated as palliatives from the Federal Government.
Governor Okpebholo, who recently succeeded a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration, formed the committee to retrieve government assets allegedly retained by private individuals.
“A lot of vehicles used by the past administration are missing, as those in possession of these vehicles have refused to return them,” Okungbowa said.
He added that the committee has two weeks to complete its task and has already gathered critical information on individuals still holding government assets.
The committee, which includes representatives from all three Senatorial Districts in Edo State, has pledged to conduct the recovery process within the bounds of the law.
Okungbowa called on the public to assist by reporting anyone suspected of unlawfully holding government vehicles.
“We want to appeal to members of the public who might be aware of anyone still keeping government vehicles in their houses to please inform us to enable the committee to recover such for the Edo State Government,” he said.
The committee can be reached at 08110165121 for information regarding the missing assets.
