Edo Election Outcome Raises Concerns Over Legal Standards, Says Obaseki
Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo state has expressed serious concerns regarding the recent governorship election, describing it as characterized by a disregard for established processes and the rule of law.
Following the announcement of Senator Monday Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress as the winner, having received 291,667 votes compared to Asue Ighodalo of the People’s Democratic Party with 247,274 votes, Obaseki emphasized the need for calm among residents in light of the contentious outcome.
In a statewide broadcast, Obaseki urged the public to avoid violence and property destruction, encouraging those who are dissatisfied with the results to pursue legal avenues to express their grievances.
