ECOWAS at 50: President Tinubu Calls for Stronger Intra-Regional Trade and Education Drive

President Bola Tinubu has commended ECOWAS as Africa’s most successful regional economic bloc during the launch of its 50th anniversary celebrations in Accra, Ghana, highlighting its progress in regional integration, trade, and poverty reduction. Represented by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, President Tinubu acknowledged ongoing challenges such as political instability, unemployment, and limited access to education, while urging member states to invest in innovation, skills development, and deeper economic cooperation. He further called for a renewed focus on transforming ECOWAS into a people-centered community and emphasized the importance of fully implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area.
