Ebonyi Teachers Declare Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

The Ebonyi State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has declared an indefinite strike in seven local government areas due to the non-payment of three months’ salaries for some teachers. The affected areas are Ebonyi, Edda, Ezza South, Ezza North, Ivo, Ishielu, and Ohaukwu. The union stated that while some local government areas had cleared the salary backlog, others, particularly in the listed areas, failed to comply.
The strike, effective from February 6, 2025, will involve solidarity picket lines and efforts to enforce compliance. The union emphasized that the failure of local government chairmen to meet their obligations is unacceptable and vowed to continue the strike until their demands are met.
