Deadly Shelling in Sudan: Dozens Feared Dead in North Darfur Attack

Dozens of people are feared dead after heavy shelling by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a crowded market in Abu Shouk, a displacement camp in North Darfur, Sudan. The attack, which lasted about two hours, occurred during the busiest time as residents prepared to break their Ramadan fast. This marks the second assault on the camp in three days, following a previous strike that killed six civilians. El-Fasher, the last major town in Darfur under army control, has been under RSF siege for nearly a year. The ongoing conflict, which began in April 2023, has led to tens of thousands of deaths, mass displacement, and widespread famine, with both the RSF and the army accused of atrocities, including genocide in Darfur.
