D’banj, Yemi Alade, Olamide, Timi Dakolo to Perform at African Military Games Opening Ceremony
Nigerian music icons D’banj, Olamide, Yemi Alade, and Timi Dakolo are set to headline the opening ceremony of the 2024 African Military Games (AMGA) today in Abuja.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the lineup in a post on X, stating, “The stage is set, and the legends are coming for the opening ceremony of #AMGA2024. Watch @Olamide, @iamdbanj, @yemialadee, and @timidakolo light up the opening ceremony like never before.”
The ceremony marks the beginning of the second edition of the African Military Games, which will see participation from 25 countries. The athletes will compete in 19 sports, with events taking place primarily at the Moshood Abiola Stadium. The obstacle crossing and shooting competitions will be held at separate venues.
Organized by the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the games aim to foster unity and collaboration among African nations through sports.
D’banj, renowned for his electrifying performances, previously wowed audiences at the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) closing ceremony in South Africa, where Nigeria clinched the championship. Yemi Alade, known for her global appeal, performed the soundtrack for and appeared at the opening ceremony of the last AFCON in Ivory Coast.
The star-studded ceremony promises to kick off the games in grand style, celebrating African culture and military camaraderie.
