Customs Agents President Demands Urgent Action to Boost Port Efficiency

April 10, 2025

The National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, Emenike Kingsley Nwokeji, has called on the Nigerian Ports Authority to stop charging duties in dollars, warning that the policy is hurting local businesses and increasing the cost of goods in the country. He said the rising charges, especially the 15 per cent rate recently introduced, are contributing to inflation and making trade more difficult for importers. Nwokeji criticised the poor state of infrastructure at the ports, including bad roads that cause frequent accidents and loss of goods.
