Cross River Magistrates Launch Indefinite Strike, Demand Action from Government
Members of the Magistrates Association of Nigeria (MAN), Cross River State chapter, have begun an indefinite strike starting Wednesday, November 27, 2024. This action follows a previous warning strike by organized labor in the state and is set to continue until the government addresses the magistrates’ demands.
The magistrates have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to implement promotions, improve their welfare, and enhance their working conditions.
They have emphasized that their strike will persist until these issues are properly addressed.
A joint statement from the association’s Chairman, Godwin Onah, and Secretary General, Solomon Abuo, confirmed the strike action. The statement outlined that the association had made several demands in a communique issued on November 5, 2024, but the government had not taken any action by the extended deadline of November 22, 2024.
The association declared that the three-day warning strike, which began on November 27, 2024, would escalate to an indefinite strike if their demands were not met. Magistrates across the state have been instructed to ensure full compliance with the strike, with the association reaffirming its commitment to solidarity until the government meets its demands.
