COAS Urges Commanders to Embrace Innovation in Tackling Security Challenges
Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has pledged to adopt an inclusive leadership approach aimed at fostering a collaborative and effective Nigerian Armed Forces.
This approach is part of his strategy to address the nation’s complex security challenges as he shared this commitment during an address to Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters after the Regimental Quarter Guard procedure marking the final stage of his assumption of office as the 24th Chief of Army Staff.
He expressed his appreciation for the support, strength, and dedication demonstrated by the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army during the burial of the late Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the former Chief of Army Staff, and recognized his exceptional service to the nation and highlighted the need to continue building on this legacy of commitment.
Furthermore, Lieutenant General Oluyede emphasized the role of innovation in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, urging commanders to think creatively and develop new strategies to tackle emerging threats. Oluyede also reflected on his recent visit to troops involved in Operation HADIN KAI in the North East, reaffirming his commitment to supporting them and boosting their morale in the ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency in the region.
In addition, Oluyede acknowledged the fluid nature of Nigeria’s security environment and expressed the Army’s determination to stay ahead of evolving threats. He called on commanders at all levels to develop innovative methods to combat terrorism and insurgency in the North East and other vulnerable regions of the country.
