Coach Ogunmodede Urges Eagles To Focus on Future Ahead of Crucial CHAN Qualifier Against Ghana
Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has urged the team to look ahead rather than dwell on past encounters as they prepare for the decisive second leg of their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against the Black Galaxies of Ghana.
The Black Galaxies have twice denied Nigeria a spot at the CHAN, including a dramatic victory on penalties in the qualifiers for the last edition held in Algeria.
Speaking on NFF TV, Ogunmodede emphasized that the team is focused on breaking the cycle of disappointment and seizing the opportunity ahead.
“We know history is not good to us with this country (Ghana), so we’ve decided not to pay attention to what history has done to us,” he said. “We are focused on the present and what the future holds for us. We know how important it is to qualify. This is not just for us but for the players, coaches, the country, and the coming generation.”
The Home Eagles held Ghana to a goalless draw in the first leg in Accra on Sunday, setting the stage for a crucial showdown in Uyo.
The second leg of the tie is set to take place on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, where Nigeria will aim to secure a spot in the 2024 CHAN tournament.
