Clash Between Secondary School Students in Ilọrin Leaves Several Injured
A violent clash between students from two secondary schools in Ilọrin, Kwara State, has left several students injured.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, saw more than 10 students wounded following a confrontation between students from Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in Adeta. The altercation is believed to have been triggered by a previous disagreement that escalated into violence.
According to Eyewitnesses, the fight began around 11:00 am and quickly turned chaotic, causing widespread panic in the area as it is suspected that the violence was a result of a reprisal attack, as tensions had been building for about two weeks leading up to the clash. Some sources believe the altercation could be linked to cultism or a battle for supremacy among the students.
The Ministry of Education’s Press Secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye, confirmed that a statement would be issued soon regarding the incident. Meanwhile, local police spokeswoman, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that several suspects had been arrested during the police’s intervention in the ongoing situation as an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fight, and the authorities are working to uncover any underlying issues that may have contributed to the violent outburst.
