The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on soldiers to prepare for the challenging task of eradicating insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria.
He emphasized that the nation is counting on the military to address these threats, stressing that the security of the country is directly linked to its economic prosperity as he acknowledged that the Nigerian Army has reassessed its training methods and updated its approach to align with modern equipment and emerging security threats.
Speaking at the Nigerian Army Doctrine and Training Conference in Minna, Niger State, Oluyede assured the soldiers that their welfare would be a top priority during his tenure. He stated that he would focus on improving the conditions of soldiers, recognizing that without them, there would be no officers or an effective military force. The COAS emphasized the need for a secure environment to attract investment and foster national growth, underscoring the soldiers’ critical role in achieving these goals.
Lieutenant General Oluyede also acknowledged the challenges faced by the soldiers and assured them that steps were being taken to address their concerns. He mentioned that their grievances had been communicated to the highest levels of government as efforts are being made to improve soldiers’ allowances, enhance accommodation facilities, and make their overall living conditions better so they can perform their duties more effectively.
