CHAN 2025 Qualifiers: Ogunmodede Confident Home-Based Eagles Will Beat Ghana
Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has expressed confidence that Nigeria’s home-based team will secure a ticket to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), overcoming arch-rivals Ghana in the process.
The Eagles missed out on the last edition of the competition, held in Algeria, after being eliminated by Ghana during the qualifiers. This year, the two teams are set to clash again for a spot in the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Speaking to the Super Eagles media team, Ogunmodede emphasized that the team is focused on the present and determined to rewrite history.
“We are not thinking about the past. What is important now is the present and looking at the future. We all know what is at stake, including the players,” Ogunmodede said. “We are giants of Africa, and we know what it means to us to play at the CHAN.”
Acknowledging Ghana’s historical advantage, he remained confident that the outcome would be different this time.
“Ghana will have the confidence they knocked us out twice in the past. I think things will be different this time around,” he added.
The first leg of the qualifier is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, at the Accra Sports Stadium, while the second leg will take place a week later at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The CHAN competition is exclusively for players who ply their trade in their domestic leagues, adding an extra layer of prestige and rivalry to the encounter.
