CHAN 2024 Qualifiers: Home Eagles Will Beat Ghana to Secure Ticket – Eguavoen
Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances of securing a spot at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The Home-based Eagles are determined to reverse their fortunes against perennial rivals Ghana and book their place in the continental tournament. Nigeria missed out on the last edition of CHAN, held in Algeria, after losing to Ghana in the final qualifying round.
This time, the two West African giants are again vying for a spot in the tournament, intensifying the rivalry. The first leg of the qualifier, played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, ended in a goalless draw. Both teams now head to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo for the decisive return leg on Saturday.
Eguavoen, speaking with Kennis FM, expressed unwavering optimism about Nigeria’s chances. “I am 100% sure that this time around we will turn it around (vs Ghana). I am absolutely confident we will qualify for the CHAN,” he said.
The coach also highlighted the team’s readiness and commitment to the task ahead. “The boys are raring to go, and they will do as they promised. We will only pray for luck.”
The Home Eagles are counting on the support of fans in Uyo as they aim to clinch victory and return to CHAN after their absence in the last edition. All eyes will be on the showdown this Saturday as Nigeria seeks redemption against their fierce rivals.
