Chairman of Nigerian Universities’ Vice Chancellors Calls for Radical Transformation

April 28, 2025

The Chairman of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, has urged universities to focus on producing future-ready graduates capable of meeting the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Speaking at the 2025 public lecture of the Social Science Academy of Nigeria in Abuja, Ezemonye called for a radical transformation in university education, emphasizing the need for relevance, quality, innovation, and inclusivity in preparing graduates for the 21st century. Ezemonye also highlighted several challenges facing the university system, including infrastructure deficits, overcrowded lecture halls, outdated laboratories, and unresolved staff agreements. He stressed that universities must adapt to these challenges to equip students with the skills needed to thrive in today’s dynamic global landscape.
