CBN Governor Cardoso applauded for Launching Non-Resident Nigerian Accounts

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has commended the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, for the introduction of the Non-Resident Nigerian Ordinary Account (NRNOA) and the Non-Resident Nigerian Investment Account (NRNIA). Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman and CEO of NiDCOM, praised the move as a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing diaspora engagement and supporting Nigeria’s economic growth.
In a statement released on Thursday by NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the significant role that diaspora remittances play in Nigeria’s economy. She noted that these remittances now represent the highest source of foreign exchange for the country, surpassing oil revenues. This highlights the growing importance of diaspora contributions to Nigeria’s economic stability.
Dabiri-Erewa also underscored the need for continued strategic engagement with the diaspora community, urging Nigerians both at home and abroad to collaborate in the development of the country. She reiterated that the progress of Nigeria lies in the hands of its citizens, as no foreigner will take on the responsibility of driving the nation’s growth.
The NiDCOM chair further encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora to take full advantage of the newly introduced financial products by the CBN. She expressed confidence that the NRNOA and NRNIA would enhance the economic contributions of Nigerians abroad, reinforcing the commission’s commitment to strengthening ties with the diaspora and optimizing remittances to boost the country’s financial health.
