President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman for winning the prestigious 2024 CAF Men’s African Footballer of the Year award.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President also celebrated Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who was named CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, and the Super Falcons for winning the Women’s National Team of the Year award.

The awards were presented on Monday night at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco, during the highly anticipated CAF Awards ceremony.

President Tinubu joined millions of Nigerians in applauding the athletes, describing them as “worthy ambassadors” for showcasing exceptional talent and bringing honor to Nigeria on both the continental and global stages.

The President expressed his belief that the recognition from Africa’s highest football authority would serve as an inspiration for young and upcoming athletes to pursue their dreams with determination.

“These athletes embody the essential Nigerian Spirit. They signpost the best in us as a nation. Let no one ever write us off. I am incredibly proud of them,” President Tinubu stated.

He further commended their dedication, discipline, and confidence, reiterating his administration’s resolve to build a nation where everyone can thrive and succeed.

“Thank you for making Nigeria proud and keeping our flag flying. Thank you for winning medals for Nigeria both at home and abroad. You will win more in the future,” the President concluded.

The CAF Awards spotlighted Nigeria’s continued dominance in African football, with Lookman’s stellar performances for club and country earning him top honors. Similarly, Nnadozie’s achievements underscored her crucial role as a dependable goalkeeper for the Super Falcons.

The Super Falcons’ Women’s National Team of the Year award reflected their outstanding performances, including a strong showing at recent international competitions.

Nigerians at home and abroad have celebrated the achievements, with many hailing the athletes for their contributions to the country’s sporting success.
