British Prime Minister Starmer Ready to Deploy Troops in Ukraine for Peacekeeping Role

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has become the first European leader to offer peacekeeping troops for Ukraine, ahead of an emergency leaders’ meeting in Paris to discuss Europe’s role in securing a ceasefire.
His commitment comes as U.S. President Donald Trump surprised Ukraine and European allies by holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to explore ending the three-year conflict, without consulting Europe. Trump’s envoy,
Keith Kellogg, stated that Europe would not have a role in peace talks, while the U.S. sought input from European capitals on security guarantees for Ukraine. Starmer emphasized the need for Europe to play a leading role in securing Ukraine’s future, including the possibility of deploying British troops if necessary. He warned that any peace agreement must ensure long-term security to prevent further Russian aggression.
The meeting, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, is expected to address Europe’s strategy for contributing to Ukraine’s security, with leaders from key European countries and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in attendance. However, the Paris summit raised concerns among some EU members who felt excluded from the discussion, as it did not include a full EU summit.
