Borno Government Approves N1.4 Billion for Road Dualization to Muhammadu Buhari Airport
The Borno State government has approved N1.4 billion for the immediate dualization of a 1.9km road from Ngomari Junction to Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri. The approval was made during the maiden state executive council meeting held at the Government House. The new road network is expected to improve transportation for people traveling to and from the airport, especially with the upcoming commencement of international flight operations.
Engr. Mustapha Gubio, the Commissioner for Works, explained that the dualization project would enhance the ease of movement between Ngomari Junction and the airport, including the Hajj Operational Unit. He also highlighted that this project was part of a larger infrastructure plan, with more roads and drainage projects set to be executed across the three senatorial districts of the state in the current fiscal year.
In addition to new projects, Engr. Gubio mentioned that several roads and drainage systems had been completed, including the restoration of infrastructure damaged by the devastating floods that affected critical areas in the state. The completion of these projects is aimed at improving connectivity and resilience within Borno.
Professor Baba Malam Gana, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, outlined the state’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage. The government has allocated 15% of the total state budget to the health sector, with plans to train more medical personnel and rebuild and equip hospitals across Borno. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to reconstruct the two colleges of nursing in Monguno and Gwoza to address the shortage of healthcare workers. Meanwhile, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, the Commissioner for Education, shared the state’s goal to reduce the number of out-of-school children from 700,000 to 200,000 by 2027.
