Benin’s Steve Mounie Reflects on Missed Chances in 1-1 Draw with Super Eagles

November 15, 2024

Steve Mounie, captain of the Benin Republic national team, has attributed his side’s 1-1 draw with the Super Eagles to their inability to convert key chances during the match. T

Despite taking the lead through Mohammed Tijani’s 16th-minute goal, the Benin team struggled to finish their opportunities, which ultimately led to the stalemate.

He acknowledged that while the result was not entirely negative, it was disappointing given the chances his team had as he noted that with a 1-0 lead, the Cheetahs were in a strong position to secure a win, but their failure to take advantage of their opportunities left them vulnerable.

He also emphasized the difficulty of playing against a team like Nigeria, where failing to finish chances can result in costly consequences. Looking ahead, he expressed the team’s determination to secure a positive result in their final qualifier against Libya. Despite the disappointment, he remained optimistic about their chances, understanding the importance of converting opportunities in future matches.
