Atalanta winger, Lookman Disappointed by Boniface’s Exclusion from African Player of the Year Nominees
Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has voiced his disappointment over the omission of Victor Boniface from the 2024 Men’s Player of the Year nominees.
He expressed his belief that Boniface deserved a spot on the list, given his stellar performance during the 2023/24 season with Bayer Leverkusen.
Boniface played a key role in Leverkusen’s successful campaign, helping the team secure both the Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal.
The 23-year-old forward was instrumental in the team’s achievements, scoring 21 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions. His contribution was significant in their unbeaten league run, making his exclusion from the nominees even more surprising to Lookman.
Although Lookman acknowledged that he was not in charge of the nomination process, he highlighted Boniface’s achievements and the team’s success as reasons why the Nigerian forward should have been considered. Lookman emphasized that based on Boniface’s performances and titles won, he had a strong case for inclusion.
Despite the disappointment, Lookman maintained a respectful tone, recognizing that the decision was beyond his control. However, he made it clear that, in his opinion, Boniface’s incredible season warranted recognition.
