AFCON Qualifier: Libya Resumes Training Ahead of Nigeria Arrival on October 7
The Libya National Team has reconvened to prepare for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Nigeria, scheduled for October 11, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The team’s training began under the new leadership of coach Nasser Al-Hadhiri, along with assistants Tunisian Akram Al-Hammami and Aboubaker Harak, in Tripoli.
Libya’s squad is expected to arrive in Abuja on October 7 before traveling to Uyo for the crucial clash with the Super Eagles.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s coach Augustine Eguavoen has yet to announce his squad for this doubleheader, which will also include a return match on October 15 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi.
Nigeria started the qualifying series strongly, securing a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic on September 7, followed by a goalless draw against Rwanda just three days later. These results placed them at the top of Group D with four points. In contrast, Libya currently sits at the bottom of the group, having gained only one point from a 1-1 draw with Rwanda on September 4, followed by a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic.
As the teams prepare for their upcoming encounters, Libya will be eager to improve their standings in the group, while Nigeria aims to build on their strong start. The match promises to be a significant event for both teams as they vie for qualification to the prestigious tournament.
