Ademola Lookman Calls Playing for Super Eagles as a Career Turning Point
Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has expressed that playing for the senior national team marked a pivotal moment in his football career.
Although he had previously represented England at the youth level, his debut for Nigeria against the Black Stars of Ghana in a 2022 World Cup qualifying playoff was a significant turning point. Since then, the Atalanta winger has made 28 appearances for Nigeria, scoring eight goals, and has become a key player in the national team.
Meanwhile he reflected on the positive impact that joining the Super Eagles has had on his career as he described the experience as “massive,” emphasizing that wearing the Super Eagles jersey has been immensely rewarding. Since his inclusion in the team, he has witnessed considerable success and growth both individually and collectively with his teammates.
The winger also highlighted the sense of unity and camaraderie within the squad, which he believes is a crucial factor in their achievements. Lookman pointed out that the team’s bond is something truly special, which has helped propel their progress. He mentioned that the team’s strong togetherness was evident in their performance at the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they reached the final, though they fell short in securing the title.
Despite the disappointment of not winning the AFCON, Lookman remains optimistic about the team’s future. He believes that the Super Eagles are still growing and improving, with a promising future ahead. The winger’s positive outlook reflects his confidence in the team’s potential and the continued progress of Nigerian football on the international stage.
