Abia State government to Implement New Minimum Wage Starting October 2024
The Abia State Government has announced that it will implement the new minimum wage starting in October 2024, as disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing in Umuahia.
This wage increase will affect all categories of workers in the state and fulfills Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to the welfare of Abia workers.
In addition to the wage announcement, Kanu also revealed that the state government plans to begin construction of ultramodern court halls in each of the 17 Local Government Areas within the next two weeks. The Federal Government recently approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 after extensive negotiations with labor unions.
In addition to the wage announcement, Kanu revealed that the state government plans to begin construction of ultramodern court halls in each of the 17 Local Government Areas within the next two weeks.
This initiative aims to enhance the administration of justice in the state. He also mentioned that the governor would soon launch the construction of a 19.4-kilometer road in Isiala Ngwa North and South LGAs as part of the RAMP project.
Highlighting the administration’s focus on education, Kanu attributed Abia State’s top performance in the recent National Examination Council (NECO) results to ongoing reforms in the education sector. He expressed confidence that the state’s educational outcomes would continue to improve in the coming years.
Additionally, the Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Ananaba Nwobilor, shared positive news regarding the Abia team’s performance at the Under 15 National Youth Games, where they won 31 medals, including seven gold. He noted that significant investments in sports development are starting to yield results, with young talents being discovered and given opportunities both locally and internationally.
