44 Players Released from Nationwide League One Over Health Concerns

April 22, 2025

The Nationwide League One (NLO) has confirmed that 44 players have been released ahead of the 2025 season after medical examinations revealed serious health issues. The league’s Medical Consultant, Dr. Ayo, disclosed that the affected players, drawn from 31 clubs, with Offa FC recording the highest number at six, were diagnosed with conditions including systemic hypertension, rendering them unfit for competitive action. NLO Chief Operating Officer, Olushola Ogunnowo, emphasized the league’s commitment to thorough pre-season health screenings to prevent sudden deaths, urging clubs to uphold the highest medical standards for their players.
