A fire broke out in an eight-story building in Seongnam, South Korea, on Friday, engulfing the structure in thick smoke and flames. The fire began in a restaurant located on the ground floor of the busy commercial building, which also contained a swimming pool where children were taking lessons. The intense blaze caused 12 people to be hospitalized for smoke inhalation, while around 30 others who had been trapped inside were safely rescued by emergency services.
The South Korean fire department quickly responded to the incident by deploying 82 vehicles and various firefighting equipment to the scene, located south of Seoul. Firefighters worked tirelessly to control the blaze, which had spread rapidly through the building. The building’s location and the presence of a swimming pool added complexity to the rescue efforts, as it was crucial to ensure the safety of children and other occupants.
As the fire raged, YTN television reported that several people had been trapped inside, with footage showing thick black smoke pouring from the structure. The smoke spread across a large section of the building, prompting a large-scale evacuation and rescue operation. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported, and emergency responders were able to carry out the rescues without further casualties.
While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, the swift actions of the fire department and rescue teams helped prevent a more catastrophic outcome. The incident has raised concerns about building safety, particularly in commercial structures that house areas such as swimming pools and restaurants, where large numbers of people could be at risk in the event of a fire.
